Deficit of Motor Skill Acquisition on the Upper Limb Ipsilesional to the Injured Hemisphere in Individuals with Stroke.

CONCLUSIONS Our findings provide evidence that individuals with stroke might have difficulty in performing visuo-spatial movements and acquiring motor skills with the ipsilateral upper limb. Improvement of ipsilesional limb function increases self-care activity in daily life. Therefore, we recommend that clinicians adopt remedial strategies for ipsilesional limbs. Conclusions/Implications for Practice These results indicate that the T-SSEQ is acceptable for use with Turkish stroke patients in both practice and research settings. Furthermore, the questionnaire is suitable for nurses to use in designing interventions and evaluating stroke patients' self-efficacy in clinics, home care, and rehabilitation centers.

Conclusion: Our results suggested that activation of the non-lesional hemisphere in sub-acute stroke associated with motor recovery in moderate-to-severe upper limb hemiparesis. A multidisciplinary rehabilitation of stroke patients with moderate-to-severe upper limb hemiparesis might enhance the compensatory movements and pre-existing motor network from the non-lesional motor cortex.
