In conclusion, placebo therapies can be beneficial and ethically justifiable but it is not a sufficient reason to publish biased information. Importantly, placebo must be devoid of adverse effects, otherwise it is named pseudo-placebo. Therapeutic methods with unproven effects should be tested in high quality research shielded from the funding bias. Some issues discussed in this review are not entirely clear, and the arguments provided here can initiate a constructive discussion. PMID: 31424374 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

We present a 71-year-old Caucasian non-Hispanic male who presented with chronic left knee pain after undergoing a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) 18  months prior. Following his TKA, he reported doing well in the acute post-operative period but began to develop progressively worsening left knee pain at approximately the third post-operative week. He underwent a successful spinal cord stimulator (SCS) trial and subsequent implantation of two 16- contact Boston Scientific leads with a Boston Scientific Spectra WaveWriterTM SCS system. Upon first post-procedural follow-up, and moreover at his 6-month follow-up, the patient...

Brucellosis is one of the most prevalent bacterial zoonosis of worldwide distribution. The disease is caused by Brucella spp., facultative intracellular pathogens. Brucellosis in animals results in abortion of fetuses, while in humans, it frequently manifests flu-like symptoms and a typical undulant fever, being osteoarthritis a common complication of the chronic infection. The two most common ways to acquire the infection in humans are through the ingestion of contaminated dairy products or by inhalation of contaminated aerosols. Brucella spp. enter the body mainly through the gastrointestinal and respiratory mucosa; howe...

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease characterized by non-bacterial inflammation. Histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3) is a crucial positive regulator in the inflammation that leads to the development of non-OA inflammatory disease. However, the precise involvement of HDAC3 in OA is still unknown, and the underlying mechanism of exercise therapy in OA requires more research. We investigated the involvement of HDAC3 in exercise therapy-treated OA. Expression levels of HDAC3, a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs-5 (ADAMTS-5), matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13), HDAC3 and nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) wer...

AbstractPurposeTo determine survivorship and functional results of medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO) combined with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) and a chondral resurfacing (CR) procedure (abrasion/microfracture) in patients with Kellgren-Lawrence grade 3 and 4 osteoarthritis with full thickness-cartilage defects, ACL-insufficiency and varus alignment.MethodsA cohort of 23 patients undergoing a combined procedure of HTO (fixation with angular stable internal fixator, Tomofix®), ACLR and CR for the treatment of severe symptomatic medial osteoarthritis, ACL insufficiency and varus alignment ...
