This study was designed in line with to two previous clinical studies into NPC conducted in the same area of Japan. We recruited NPC patients diagnosed in hospitals across this area over a 10-year period (2006–2015) using a questionnaire about sex, age, primary site, clinical symptoms, pathology, Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) staging, serological exam, treatment, and survival. A total of 620 NPC patients were identified. The age-standardized incidence of NPC from 2006 to 2015 was 0.27 per 100,000 individuals per year. There were no significant differences between this study and the previous two st...

In this study, we investigated the role of LINC00460 in invasion and metastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). In NPC cell lines named C666-1 and 5-8F, LINC00460 overexpression promoted cancer cell migration, invasion and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), while depletion of LINC00460 exhibited opposite effects. We further demonstrated that LINC00460 regulated Rap1A expression through competitively binding to miR-30a-3p. LINC00460 knockdown suppressed NPC metastasis in a xenograft mouse model. Taken together, our findings suggested LINC00460 functioned as an oncogene in NPC which promoted invasion and metastasis,...

Conclusion: These results suggest that apatinib might be effective for not only gastric cancer but also other carcinomas including lung cancer, colorectal cancer, cervical cancer, liver cancer, breast cancer, and nasopharyngeal cancer. Thus, apatinib is a promising targeted drug for multiple types of cancer.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignancy of epithelial origin that is prone to local invasion and early distant metastasis. Although concurrent chemotherapy and radiotherapy improves the 5-year survival outcomes, persistent or recurrent disease still occurs. Therefore, novel therapeutic targets are needed for NPC patients. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in normal cell homeostasis, and dysregulations of miRNA expression have been implicated in human cancers. In NPC, studies have revealed that miRNAs are dysregulated and involved in tumorigenesis, metastasis, invasion, resistance to chemo- and radiotherapy, an...

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), a gamma-1 herpesvirus, is carried as a life-long asymptomatic infection by the great majority of individuals in all human populations. Yet this seemingly innocent virus is aetiologically linked to two pre-malignant lymphoproliferative diseases (LPDs) and up to nine distinct human tumours; collectively these have a huge global impact, being responsible for some 200,000 new cases of cancer arising worldwide each year. EBV replicates in oral epithelium but persists as a latent infection within the B cell system and several of its diseases are indeed of B cell origin; these include B-LPD of the immuno...

Authors: Yao Z, Zhang Y, Xu D, Zhou X, Peng P, Pan Z, Xiao N, Yao J, Li Z Abstract d_abstr_R Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), a group of non-protein-coding RNAs longer than 200 nucleotides, are involved in multiple biological and pathological processes, such as proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion, angiogenesis, and immune escape. Many studies have shown that lncRNAs participate in the complex network of cancer and play vital roles as oncogenes or tumor-suppressor genes in a variety of cancers. Moreover, recent research has shown that abnormal expression of lncRNAs in malignant tumor cells before and after ...

Abstract Recent antitumor drug development has included investigation of a wide variety of anti-angiogenesis therapies. Because cancer cells in tumors require new blood vessels to grow and spread, they stimulate capillary proliferation from existing vessels as well as new vessel formation from endothelial precursor cells. Our previous findings suggested that drug resistance in mouse endothelial cells supported tumor growth, but the relationship between endothelial cells (ECs) and nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cells remained unclear. Exosomes are small membrane vesicles that are released by several cell types, inc...

Abstract A formulation of self-assembled peptido-nanomicelles has been developed for a combinational treatment of SDT, PDT and chemotherapy to nasopharyngeal carcinoma. In vitro cellular tests and in vivo mice therapy proved effective for targeted tumor growth inhibition. These merits provided a novel approach to non-invasive cancer treatments.
