Anterior Chamber Rebubbling With Perfluoropropane (C3F8) After Failed Rebubbling Attempts for Persistent Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty Graft Detachments

Conclusions: Tamponade using nonexpansile 10% C3F8 gas can attach partially detached DMEK grafts after the failure of previous air- or SF6-assisted rebubbling attempts.

Purpose: To identify donor and recipient factors, including eye bank tissue observations, predictive of operative complications in the Cornea Preservation Time Study. Methods: One thousand three hundred thirty study eyes undergoing Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty for Fuchs dystrophy or pseudophakic/aphakic corneal edema were randomized to receive a donor cornea with preservation time (PT) of 0 to 7 days (N = 675) or 8 to 14 days (N = 655). Donor factors included demographics, prelamellar corneal and postlamellar lenticule dissection thickness, central endothelial cell density, and tissue processi...

Purpose: To evaluate Scheimpflug corneal densitometry (CD) in patients undergoing secondary Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) after previous Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty or DMEK surgery. Methods: This was a retrospective institutional case series of 37 eyes of 37 patients. Two secondary DMEK groups, group 1A (n = 12 DMEK after Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty), group 1B (n = 11 repeat DMEK), and group 2 (n = 14 primary DMEK for Fuchs endothelial dystrophy) were formed. CD was obtained preoperatively, 1, 6, and 12 months postoperatively. In addition, correct...

Conclusions: Epithelial ingrowth may occur after a corneal endothelium transplant. There have been multiple reports of epithelial ingrowth after Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty, but this particular case report suggests that epithelial ingrowth may also occur after DMEK. In this case, PK solved the complication.

ConclusionsBK was the first cause of keratoplasty with almost half of the cases, and keratoconus was relegated to sixth place with less than 5%. In comparison, in a study from eye banks from the US, BK was the second and keratoconus was the third indication for corneal grafts. The frequency of endothelial lamellar techniques in our institution decreased from 2012 to 2016. This could have been related to both the long time that the patients had to be on a waiting list, which made them unsuitable candidates for this technique, due to stromal fibrosis, and to the fact that surgeons of our institution had less experience with ...

CONCLUSION: V‑FUCHS allows for standardized quantification of visual disability in patients with FECD. The German version of V‑FUCHS is a valid and reliable visual disability instrument. It may serve as a patient-reported outcome measure and needs to be studied further in clinical practice, research and trials. PMID: 31342164 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusions: Our study describes for the first time phenotype-genotype correlation in a large Tunisian family with GCDI and illustrates for the first time clinical and histopathological presentation of homozygous p.[R124S] mutation. These results help to understand pathophysiology of the disease. PMID: 31322463 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Abstract Patients with gelatinous drop-like corneal dystrophy need to be effectively managed as the disease is severely debilitating in view of associated pho-tophobia and glare. Here, we report a rare case of gelatinous drop-like corneal dystrophy effectively managed by intraoperative anterior segment optical coherence tomography-guided manual deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty in 1 eye and sutureless fibrin glue-aided, microkeratome-assisted automated lamellar therapeutic keratoplasty in the other eye. The patient, a 22-year old man, presented with gradual diminution of vision associated with foreign body sensa...
