UBC scientists find high mutation rates within huge, old-growth trees

(University of British Columbia) UBC scientists found the first evidence of the tremendous genetic variation that can accumulate in some of our tallest trees. They found that an old-growth Sitka spruce could have up to 100,000 genetic differences in DNA sequence between the base of the tree and the tip of the crown.
