Cough and Eosinophilia

Publication date: July–August 2019Source: The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice, Volume 7, Issue 6Author(s): Sarah Diver, Richard J. Russell, Christopher E. BrightlingEosinophilic airway inflammation is observed in 30% to 50% of chronic cough sufferers. It is a common feature of asthma and upper airway cough syndrome, and it is required in the diagnosis of nonasthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis. Our understanding of the mechanisms underlying allergic and nonallergic eosinophilic inflammation have evolved tremendously in the last 2 decades, but the cause of this inflammation in any individual is often uncertain. Inhaled corticosteroids are the mainstay therapy for cough due to asthma or nonasthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis, and response is related to the presence of biomarkers of eosinophilic airway inflammation. In upper airway cough syndrome, nasal topical corticosteroids are beneficial in allergic rhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis with polyposis. This review will describe the diagnosis, current and possible future treatments, and prognosis of chronic cough in adults with eosinophilic inflammation.

Herein, we introduced a new label-free voltammetric immunosensor for the direct determination of kidney bean lectin (KBL) with potential allergenic activity. Gold nanoparticles-polyethyleneimine-multiwalled carbon nanotubes nanocomposite was one-pot synthesized and modified onto the glass carbon electrode to enhance catalytic ...

In this work, a capacitive humidity sensor based on indium oxide (In2O3) nanocubes/graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets hybrid film was developed with Cu/Ni electrodes on an epoxy substrate. The In2O3/GO composite was analyzed through XRD, SEM, TEM and XPS for its composition, morphology and structure. The In2O3/GO fil...

Over 2.6 million ED visits across the United States result in a primary diagnosis of urinary tract infection.1 While much attention has been paid to reducing blood culture contamination rates in the emergency department,2-9 a substantial gap remains in projects aimed at reducing contamination in clean-catch urine specimens obtained in the ED setting. Obtaining an adequate urine culture is clinically important to the care of several vulnerable patient groups, including patients with diabetes or compromised immune responses, those with high risk for subsequent urosepsis, previous antibiotic resistant infections, multiple ant...

Conclusion The results obtained from this research shows, in general, the fragility in the social and political infrastructure necessary to improve the living conditions of populations, particularly those that depend on family agriculture in drought prone areas. The conditions of social, economic and environmental vulnerabilities presented in the region can be amplified by the drought process, and can aggravate the impacts resulting drought events, thus disadvantaging the population of this region, as shown in the Fig. 1. The general perception of the interviewees of the health sector shows an agreement with what is found...

Cough variant asthma (CVA) is a special phenotype of asthma. Despite standart regimens, the treatment and control of CVA is difficult and can cause complications. Some patients have persistant symptoms despite inhaler bronchodilator and steroid therapy. Central cough supressants, such as codeine and dextromethorphan are recommended for symptomatic relief of cough in patients with chronic bronchitis but there is limited scientific data about their usage in asthma patients. We evaluate 16 CVA-phenotype asthmatic patients who had to use codeine, who were unresponsive to conventional asthma medications. We analysed demographic ...

Conclusion While government groups maintain that no studies have been done to compare the health of vaccinated to unvaccinated, the reality is that several comparative studies have been completed by independent researchers in the US and in other countries. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention refuses to conduct such studies, claiming they would be unethical to perform. In reality, these studies could easily be performed, since many educated parents choose to not vaccinate their children. The evidence is overwhelming. Studies completed in New Zealand, Germany, Africa, Great Britain and the United States have come ...
