Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Clinical and Environmental Mycobacterium chimaera isolates.

In conclusion, our results show that clarithromycin, amikacin, rifabutin and streptomycin had best activity against M. chimaera isolates, while susceptibility rates were lower for rifampicin and ethambutol. In contrast, there was a high prevalence of isolates not susceptible to moxifloxacin or linezolid. While factors additional to antibiotic susceptibility may determine the outcome of treatment of M. chimaera infections, our results should inform on the selection of antimicrobials as part of the overall therapeutic strategy.
