Prognosis of urinary tract infection caused by KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae: the impact of inappropriate empirical treatment
Klebsiella pneumoniae (Kp) is a common cause of urinary tract infection (UTI). In recent years, numerous centers worldwide have witnessed outbreaks of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae infections, including Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) infections, making their adequate control and treatment a global priority.1 These infections are difficult to treat since they are usually resistant to all first-line drugs, which may explain the high mortality of these infections and the need for combination therapy in high-risk patients.
