Conclusions: Baseline thrombocytopenia and platelet decrease following renal replacement therapy initiation were associated with increased mortality, and baseline thrombocytopenia was associated with decreased rates of renal recovery. Continuous renal replacement therapy did not decrease platelets compared with hemodialysis.

Heart transplant (HT) centers with superior short-term (90 day) survival of recipients maintain performance advantage over other centers for long-term survival. However, signature characteristics of high-performing centers have not been adequately analyzed. We stratified US centers by 90-day performance and compared them for mortality across recipient risk-spectrum, ability to rescue from early renal failure and cause-specific mortality during the first 90 post-HT days.

Combined heart-kidney transplantation (HKTx) has been shown to have successful short-term outcomes and possibly protective effects for the donor heart. There are an increasing number of patients (pts) with end-stage heart failure and severe renal failure that require HKTx. We sought to assess the 10-Year outcomes of these pts in our single center.

Conclusions: Although the mFI correlated with 30-day mortality in univariate analysis, it was not a significant predictor in multivariate analysis. An increase in age and the number of levels involved elevated the 1-year mortality risk. PMID: 30866620 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Martellosio JP, Leleu X, Roblot P, Martin M, Puyade M Abstract Serum free light chains (sFLC) assay is an important marker in plasma cell dyscrasia. It is thus recommended for the diagnosis of monoclonal gammopathy, together with serum protein electrophoresis and immunofixation. sFLC assay has also a prognostic value and is a criterion for treatment response and relapse of some monoclonal gammopathies. Three assays are currently available in France, the gold standard being the Freelite® assay, the two others requiring further validation. These three assays are not interchangeable during patient's follo...

Conclusion: This study demonstrated the renoprotective potential of CA and combination of CA + CEL in IR-induced ARF in rats. The plausible mechanisms for the efficacy of CA could be attributed to its ability to modulate the COX-LOX system in renal IR.Pharmacology 2019;103:315 –319

AbstractThe majority of patients with chronic heart failure (HF) receive long-term treatment with loop diuretics. The comparative effectiveness of different loop diuretics is unknown. We searched PubMed,, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and the European Union Clinical Trials Register for randomised clinical trials exploring the efficacy of the loop diuretics azosemide, bumetanide, furosemide or torasemide in patients with HF. Comparators included placebo, standard medical care or any other active treatment. The primary endpoint was all-cause mortality. Secondary endpoints included cardi...
