A Systematic Review of the Clinical Implementation of Pelvic Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR)-Only Planning for External Beam Radiation Therapy
Substantial efforts are being made to introduce MR-only radiotherapy treatment planning into wide-spread clinical implementation. A systematic review of publications investigating the clinical implementation of pelvic MR-only radiotherapy treatment planning was undertaken. No limiting barriers to wide-spread introduction were found, with four studies reporting treating prostate cancer patients. Multiple methodologies were reported including; workflow optimisation, MR acquisition challenges, pathway risk identification, end-to-end testing, geometric distortion characterisation and synthetic-CT and treatment positioning verification accuracy assessment strategies.
