Omidenepag isopropyl for the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension.

Omidenepag isopropyl for the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Drugs Today (Barc). 2019 Jun;55(6):377-384 Authors: Ferro Desideri L, Cutolo CA, Barra F, Ferrero S, Traverso CE Abstract Glaucoma is a main cause of irreversible vision impairment and its prevalence is expected to rise significantly in the near future. Among the current medications, prostaglandin analogues (PGAs) are widely used and considered as a first-line strategy in the management of glaucoma and ocular hypertension (OHT). However, given the non-negligible incidence of adverse ocular effects (conjunctival hyperemia, increase of iris pigmentation and eyelash changes) due to the use of this class of drugs, novel PGAs are being investigated. Omidenepag isopropyl is a selective prostaglandin EP2 receptor agonist which was approved on September 21, 2018, in Japan for the treatment of glaucoma and OHT. In this review, we will discuss its pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and clinical efficacy, focusing also on its safety and tolerability profile. PMID: 31250842 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract BACKGROUND/AIMS: In order to address the eye care needs of the increasing numbers of elderly Chinese globally, there is a need for comprehensive understanding on the longitudinal trends of age-related eye diseases among Chinese. We herein report the key findings from the baseline Singapore Chinese Eye Study (SCES-1), and describe the rationale and methodology of the 6-year follow-up study (SCES-2). METHODS: 3353 Chinese adults who participated in the baseline SCES-1 (2009-2011) were invited for the 6-year follow-up SCES-2 (2015-2017). Examination procedures for SCES-2 included standardised ocular, sy...

In conclusion, with study of the frailty syndrome still in its infancy, frailty analysis remains a major challenge. It is a challenge that needs to be overcome in order to shed light on the multiple mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of this syndrome. Although several mechanisms contribute to frailty, immune system alteration seems to play a central role: this syndrome is characterized by increased levels of pro-inflammatory markers and the resulting pro-inflammatory status can have negative effects on various organs. Future studies should aim to better clarify the immune system alteration in frailty, and seek to esta...

Authors: Tiotiu A, Novakova P, Kowal K, Emelyanov A, Chong-Neto H, Novakova S, Labor M Abstract Introduction: Patients with asthma often have important co-morbidities which reduce the likelihood of gaining optimal asthma control. Beta2-blockers are commonly prescribed for the treatment of different clinical indications, including coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmia, arterial hypertension, heart failure and glaucoma. Areas covered: The aim of this review is to summarize current evidence on the effect of systemic and local β-blockers on asthma outcomes based on their pharmacologic properties, and to help...
