Acute myocardial infarction and transient elevated anticardiolipin antibody in a young adult with possible familial hypercholesterolemia: a case report

Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) can lead to premature coronary heart disease. Anticardiolipin antibody may be a contributor for thrombosis. Here, we report an adult with possible FH suffered from premature ...

Conclusions. Elevated levels of serum albumin are associated with reduced risk of vascular outcomes, all-cause mortality, certain cancers, and fracture. Inconsistent findings for T2D may be attributed to selective reporting by studies. Further research is needed to assess any potential causal relevance to these findings and the role of serum albumin concentrations in disease prevention.Systematic review registration: PROSPERO 2019: CRD42019125869. CONCLUSION: Since there was no statistical significance between the probucol and control groups despite a marked reduction of HDL-C, further studies on the clinical outcomes of probucol on top of conventional therapy may be necessary in the future (UMIN000003307). AbstractThe mortality effects and risk –benefit profile of low dose rivaroxaban (2.5 mg twice daily) in patients with coronary heart disease are not completely understood. Five randomized controlled trials (26,110 patients) were selected using PubMed and Cochrane library till April 2019. The background antiplatelet therapy was aspirin in 3 trials, P2Y12 inhibitor in 1 trial, and in 1 trial 65% patients received aspirin and 35% were on dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT). The outcomes of interest were cardiovascular mortality, all-cause mortality, myocardial infarction (MI), stroke and major bleeding events. Random ...

Authors: Alwi I Abstract Over more than two decades, the concept of atherosclerosis has developed and lead to inflammatory hypothesis. Inflammation plays an important role on pathogenesis of atherothrombosis and coronary heart disease (CHD), including acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Although the management of ACS has been demonstrated to be beneficial for secondary prevention of coronary heart disease (such as using statin and aspirin) and also seemed to have positive effect on inflammation, the identification of effective management, specifically targeting inflammation, has been not been comprehensively understood....

Background: This meta-analysis is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of bivalirudin in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Methods: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, CNKI, CBMdisc, and VIP database were searched. Randomized controlled trial (RCT) was selected and the meta-analysis was conducted by RevMan 5.1. The primary efficacy endpoint was the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and the primary safety endpoint was the incidence of major bleeding. Secondary efficacy endpoints were myocardial infarction (MI), target vessel revascularization (TVR), stent thrombosis (ST), stoc...

Authors: Shiomi M Abstract A number of effective drugs have been developed through animal experiments, contributing to the health of many patients. In particular, the WHHL rabbit family (WHHL rabbits and its advanced strains (coronary atherosclerosis-prone WHHL-CA rabbits and myocardial infarction-prone WHHLMI rabbits) developed at Kobe University (Kobe, Japan) contributed greatly in the development of cholesterol-lowering agents. The WHHL rabbit family is animal models for human familial hypercholesterolemia, coronary atherosclerosis, and coronary heart disease. At the end of breeding of the WHHL rabbit family, th...

Authors: Shiomi M Abstract Animal models that closely resemble both human disease findings and their onset mechanism have contributed to the advancement of biomedical science. The Watanabe heritable hyperlipidemic (WHHL) rabbit and its advanced strains (the coronary atherosclerosis-prone and the myocardial infarction-prone WHHL rabbits) developed at Kobe University (Kobe, Japan), an animal model of human familial hypercholesterolemia, have greatly contributed to the elucidation of the pathophysiology of human lipoprotein metabolism, hypercholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, and coronary heart disease, as described bel...

Authors: Kumar SS, Sabu A Abstract Cardiovascular diseases are a group of disorders consisting importantly of coronary heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, cerebrovascular disease, rheumatic heart disease, congenital heart disease, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Severe cardiovascular disease conditions lead to acute myocardial infarction and stroke. One of the reasons for this is formation of blood clots inside the vessel. Anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs are used for managing cardiovascular diseases for a long time. However, they were unable to dissolve an existing thrombus. Fibrinolytic ...

Conclusions: CaD did not consistently modify the effect of CEE therapy or CEE + MPA therapy on CVD events. However, the increased risk of stroke due to CEE therapy appears to be mitigated by CaD supplementation. In contrast, CaD supplementation did not influence the risk of stroke due to CEE + MPA.
