Commentary on: Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels and depression in older adults a dose-response meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies

The role of vitamin D and its relationship to calcium and related deficiencies in many areas of medicine, including psychiatry, has been the topic of much research and frequent disagreement.1,2 While deficiencies in vitamin D are associated with various health problems, the body of research as a whole has been limited with regard to quality of studies presented. Questions about normal prevalence ranges, what constitutes a deficiency, and what are the risks and benefits from vitamin D supplementation remain largely unanswered.
