New Patient Access in a Gastroenterology Clinic: A Quality Improvement Initiative
Subspecialty access is an important aspect of the healthcare system, especially in gastroenterology. Given that gastroenterologists ’ time is divided between endoscopy and clinic and not solely clinic, it is difficult to accommodate the clinic demand, especially for new patients. In our institution, our demand for new patients overwhelms our supply. Therefore, we performed a quality improvement project within the Division of G astroenterology at the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU-GI) with the aim of improving new patient access in our gastroenterology clinics (patients scheduled within 10 business days) by 10% over 16 months.
