Cancer cells depend on lengthening their telomeres, usually via telomerase activity. Telomeres are the caps of repeated DNA sequences at the ends of chromosomes. A little length is lost with each cell division, and when short a cell either self-destructs or becomes senescent and ceases replication. Cancer cells can only replicate continually if telomeres are extended continually. Thus some research groups are looking into sabotage of telomerase or the alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT) processes as the basis for a truly universal cancer therapy. Others, as here, are investigating ways to interfere in mechanisms tha...

ConclusionsOur study revealed the clinical characteristics and prognoses of patients who became ineligible for the PACIFIC trial after CRT. Physicians should be careful while prescribing CRT for patients with characteristics such as old age, male gender, and radiation therapy with V20  ≥ 35%.

Publication date: Available online 13 July 2019Source: Pathology - Research and PracticeAuthor(s): Lan Luan, Hongying Wang, Beibei Zhao, Fan Wang, Juan Shi, Xiajun XuAbstractThis updated meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the relationship of a common polymorphism (T309 G, rs2279744 T > G) in the murine double minute 2 (MDM2) gene with susceptibility and prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, CNKI, WanFang and CNKI databases were searched comprehensively for related study. Odds ratios (ORs) with their 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were c...

Osteoclast plays an important role in bone resorption and the growth of bone metastases of lung cancer. In order to treat bone metastases of lung cancer, we reported a docetaxel (DTX)-loaded nanoparticle, DTX@AHP, which could target dually at osteoclasts and bone metastatic tumor cells. The in vitro drug release from DTX@AHP exhibited...

Conclusion: The anti-growth and anti-metastatic effects of lidocaine towards lung cancer cells. The anti-tumour properties of lidocaine may be partial via up-regulation of miR-539, which blocked EGFR signalling by directly binding with EGFR. PMID: 31299862 [PubMed - in process]

This study analyzed the current literature on the treatment of neoplastic pericardial effusion to provide advice and guidance for clinical treatment. Surgical treatments include pericardial puncture, extension of catheter drainage, pericardial window, and surgical pericardiotomy. Each surgical procedure has a corresponding indication, and the best treatment is selected according to the patient's specific conditions. Systemic chemotherapy is effective in lymphoma and small cell lung cancer that are sensitive to chemotherapeutic drugs. Although pericardial injection of drugs is effective for pericardial tamponade and re...

Authors: Yang Q, Deng H, Xia H, Xu M, Pan G, Mao J, Tao S, Yamanaka K, An Y Abstract NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) plays an important role in tumor proliferation and chemoresistance. Nrf2 expression levels may be associated with prognosis of lung cancer, but previous results have been inconsistent. Pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and odds ratios were calculated to assess the prognostic value of the Nrf2 expression in this meta-analysis. Nine studies with 940 patients were included. A high Nrf2 expression level was significantly related to decreased overall survival (HR = 1.948, 95% CI = 1.564-2.427),...
