ConclusionA high index of suspicion, coupled with a tailored, multidisciplinary approach, is essential to achieve the best possible outcome. Conservative management may be worthwhile in a stable patient despite delayed presentation. Although TOE is considered a safe procedure, physicians should be made aware of such a dreaded complication.

ConclusionVariations in mesenchymal gastrointestinal tumors is vast, rendering diagnosis by radiology alone difficult. As such, characteristic histologic and immunostaining features are cornerstones in precise diagnosis of esophageal schwannomas. Despite being rare in incidence, symptomatic esophageal schwannoma lesions can be excised entirely, with low rate of recurrence and favorable overall outcomes.

This article reviews the current literature regarding established and proposed EE-GERD, reporting on all available options for its correct diagnosis and therapeutic management. Expert opinion: MII-pH could help to identify a hidden GERD that causes EE. Unfortunately, standard MII-pH analysis results are often unable to define this association. New parameters such as the mean nocturnal baseline impedance and post-reflux swallow-induced peristaltic wave index may have an improved diagnostic yield, but prospective studies using impedance-pH are needed. Authors: Serrano Díaz L, Jiménez Sánchez J, Martínez Crespo JJ Abstract The gastric-gastric fistula is an infrequent complication of bariatric surgery, but one you have to suspect it in cases of weight gain or sickness. For its diagnosis it is necessary to conduct an upper digestive endoscopy or other imaging techniques, such as a barium-based contrast examination or CT with water-soluble contrast. CONCLUSIONS: CELS is a feasible treatment for colonic neoplasia where endoscopic resection alone is not technically possible. In case of severe co-morbidity ruling out segmental resection in patients diagnosed with T1 or T2 colorectal cancer, CELS treatment may be considered. FUNDING: none. TRIAL REGISTRATION: This study was assessed by The National Committee on Health Research Ethics (SJ-593), which concluded that the study required no approval from the Committee. The study was approved by the Danish Data Protection Agency (REG-126-2017). . PMID: 31315798 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSIONS: This is the first report of the use of lenvatinib for the treatment of distant metastases from CMV-PTC. In addition to the efficacy in treating metastatic lesions of this rare variant of PTC, lenvatinib shows promise in the management of associated FAP. This treatment strategy may be useful in the management of recurrent CMV-PTC and in those with FAP who refuse colectomy. PMID: 31317827 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusion: This study managed to determine babA, homB, aspA, and sabA genes of H. pylori by PCR. However, the frequency of these factors was not different in patients with PU and NUD. There is no role of babA, homB, aspA, and sabA genes for the development of peptic ulcer in Turkish population. PMID: 31312620 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract The vomerovaginal canal (VVC) and palatovaginal canal (PVC) are two canals that open forward to the posterior wall of the pterygopalatine fossa (PPF). Although the anatomy and computed tomography (CT) appearances of the PVC have been well studied, the VVC has been rarely reported, especially in endoscopic examinations. Some studies have even failed to distinguish the PVC from the VVC on CT images. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the anatomy of the VVC on endoscopy and reveal its differences from the PVC, and to analyse the relative positions of the VVC, PVC, and pterygoid canal on CT images. ...

Authors: Holmberg D, Ness-Jensen E, Mattsson F, Lagergren J Abstract Background and aim: Clinical guidelines recommend endoscopy surveillance at given intervals or endoscopic therapy for Barrett's esophagus with low-grade dysplasia (LGD) and high-grade dysplasia (HGD). Whether these guidelines are followed in clinical practice is unknown and was assessed in this study. Methods: This nationwide Swedish cohort study included patients with Barrett's esophagus with histologically verified LGD or HGD from 50 centers in 2006-2013. These patients were followed up using nationwide registers. Adherence to clinical guideline...
