Development of twist-correction system for radiotherapy of head and neck cancer patients. Furthermore, the operational accuracy of this device under no load was evaluated. We devised a concept for correcting the twist of patients by adjustment of the three rotation (pitch, roll, and yaw) angles in two independent plates connected by a joint (fulcrum). The two plates (head and neck plate and body plate) rotate around the fulcrum by adjusting screws under each of them. A prototype device was created to materialize this concept. First, after all adjusting screws were set to the zero position, the rotation angle of each plate was measured by a digital goniometer. Repeatability was evaluated by performing 20 repeated measurements. Next, to confirm the rotational accuracy of each plate of the prototype device, the calculated rotation angles for 20 combinations of patterns of traveled distances of the adjusting screws were compared with those measured by the digital goniometer and cone-beam computed tomography (CT). CONCLUSIONS: While clinicians feel that LDCT LCS may benefit some HNC survivors, there are barriers both to implementing LCS SDM for these patients in primary care as currently recommended and to integrating it into cancer clinics. Challenges for SDM across settings include a lack of decision aids tailored to patients with cancer histories. The purpose of this study was to investigate the dosimetric impact of weight loss in head and neck (H&N) patients and examine the effectiveness of adaptive planning. Data was collected from 22 H&N cancer patients who experienced weight loss during their course of radiotherapy. The robustness of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) treatment plans were compared including the potential need for replanning. The dosimetric impact of weight loss was evaluated by calculating a verification plan for each patient on an assessment CT scan taken during the course of treatment.

Conclusion In our preliminary and limited study, we did not observe statistically significant differences in tumour metabolism, proliferation and hypoxia between the HPV+ and HPV−patients. However HPV− patients tend to have higher proliferation status and more pronounced hypoxia with lower glucose metabolism.
