Conclusions/Implications for Practice Educational status, being male, having a central venous catheter, and having a short HD duration were found to be risk factors for nonadherence. Nurses must consider the patient's adherence to the dietary and fluid restrictions, HD, and medication treatment at each visit.

Geetanjali Loomba, Manju Dhandapani, Sukhpal Kaur, Sandhya Ghai, Manisha Biswal, Raja Ramachandran, Krishan Lal GuptaIndian Journal of Nephrology 2019 29(4):267-271 Infection of the internal jugular vein (IJV) catheter continues to be a common cause of death in patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis (HD). The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of personal hygiene on the incidence of IJV catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI). A randomized, controlled, parallel, and non-inferiority trial was conducted on patients initiated on maintenance HD via right IJV catheter. Patients were...

Khaled M. A. Elzorkany, Asmaa M Elbrolosy, Eman H SalemIndian Journal of Nephrology 2019 29(4):282-287 Hemodialysis (HD) patients are at risk for developing serious infections. Methicillin- resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the most prevalent pathogens in healthcare facilities with a major threat to the medical community. We aimed to determine the prevalence of MRSA colonization among patients and medical staff members in a HD Unit and determine efficacy of mupirocin as a decolonizing agent. This cross-sectional study enrolled 250 patients and 35 health care providers of a HD unit. Nasal and hand swabs were...

CONCLUSIONS: Tx-ESRD patients have worse quality metrics related to anemia, phosphorus, albumin, and vascular access compared to Nat-ESRD patients. Nephrology care for patients with Tx-ESRD should be improved to address these quality metrics gaps. PMID: 31311008 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

edo D Abstract Successful dialysis in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) largely depends on the patients' ability to adhere to several clinical requirements and life-style changes. Social support has been consistently linked to better health outcomes in a number of chronic diseases. The current study presents a systematic review of the literature on the relationship between social support and treatment adherence in ESRD. The search was performed on Web of Science, PsycInfo, ScienceDirect, and Scopus from January 19 to May 15, 2019. Two hundred and twenty-four records were identified. After quality assessment, 17 studi...

r B Abstract OBJECTIVE: To clarify the reasons and beneficial effects and duration of arteriovenous fistula patency after radiological interventions in arteriovenous fistula. The patients investigated were referred due to arteriovenous fistula access flow problems. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In 174 patients, 522 radiological investigations and endovascular treatments such as percutaneous transluminal angioplasty were analyzed, retrospectively. All investigations were performed due to clinical suspicion of impaired arteriovenous fistula function. RESULTS: Arterial stenosis was significantly more frequent among...

Authors: Zhan X, Yang M, Chen Y, Zhang L, Yan C, Wang Y Abstract Objective: Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that dialysis patients are at increased risk for stroke. However, the impact of dialysis modalities on stroke risk remains controversial. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the effect of peritoneal dialysis (PD) and hemodialysis (HD) on stroke risk. Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science was performed to identify articles comparing the stroke outcomes of dialysis patients. Hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were extracted...
