In this study treatment with flupenthixol decanoate was associated with relatively low levels of hyperprolactinemia, likely owing to flupenthixol’s relatively atypical mode of action, as well as to the low doses u sed in our study. We found an inverse correlation between total PANSS scores and prolactin levels, which could support the suggested theory of prolactin having antipsychotic properties. Our study confirms the importance of gender on the prolactin raising effects of antipsychotic treatment.

Abnormal functional connectivity is assumed to underlie neurocognitive deficits in patients with schizophrenia. As individuals with an ultra-high risk for psychosis have neurocognitive deficits that are mainly reflected in the alpha rhythm, the identification of neural networks is essential to our understanding of the disorder. We investigated the functional connectivity of the alpha rhythm during resting state EEG as a potential biomarker of clinical risk and schizophrenia and explored correlations between cognitive functioning and clinical symptoms. The participants included 28 patients with first-episode schizophrenia (...

Conclusions. Patients suffering from schizophrenia can benefit from non-pharmacological interventions aimed at counteracting CMRF, improving either metabolic parameters, cardiovascular fitness or their health perception. Notwithstanding, in order to achieve long-term effects, future studies should comprise appropriate follow-up procedures.

CONCLUSIONS: The study demonstrates that an available measure of genetic risk for schizophrenia is robustly associated with schizophrenia in health care settings and has pleiotropic effects on related psychiatric disorders as well as other medical syndromes. The results provide an initial indication of the opportunities and limitations that may arise with the future application of PRS testing in health care systems.
