Mandated Research Peer Review Positively Impacts Research Funding Success Rates for Young Investigators

Successful receipt of funding for biomedical research requires a compelling and significant question that is addressed with an innovative and rigorous scientific approach. These features are necessary but not sufficient. Specifically, the significance of the idea and the innovation and rigor of the approach must be presented in a written application with clarity and precision. The need for clear, effective written communication in research grant applications has become increasingly important as application numbers continue to rise and success rates fall.
