Facile fabrication of cytocompatible polyester fiber composite incorporated via photocatalytic nano copper ferrite/myristic-lauric fatty acids coating with antibacterial and hydrophobic performances

Publication date: November 2019Source: Materials Science and Engineering: C, Volume 104Author(s): Ali Bashiri Rezaie, Majid Montazer, Mahnaz Mahmoudi RadAbstractBenign polymeric and textile based materials having multifaceted features such as antibacterial performance, hydrophobic property and photocatalytic activity are highly interesting from the both human health and environment observations. Herein, a cytocompatible polyester fiber composite incorporated via photocatalytic nano copper ferrite/myristic-lauric fatty acids coating with antibacterial and hydrophobic performances was prepared through one-pot facile fabrication route. X-ray diffraction analysis, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, mapping images, Field-emission scanning electron microscope and Fourier transform infrared spectra were accomplished to indemnify the prepared composites. An appropriate hydrophobic feature with maximum water contact angle of 143° was achieved for the fabricated sample. Moreover, the prepared samples demonstrated excellent antibacterial effect (100%) toward pathogenic bacteria comprising Escherichia coli as Gram-negative and Staphylococcus aureus as Gram-positive bacteria. The impact of the prepared samples on normal human skin fibroblast was further verified according to the cytotoxicity test (MTT). Adjusting the copper ferrite dosage in the composite as well as presence of fatty acids as benign materials surrounding nanoparticles led to decline the cytotoxicity of the fabricat...

We report a rapid method for synthesis of zeolitic imidazolate framework 8 (ZIF-8)-decorated graphene oxide (GO) composites (ZGO) with good antibacterial properties. The ZGO composites were synthesized at room temperature with low GO to metal salt ratios. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, and surface area analysis. The characterization results show that ZIF-8 with a size of approximately 120 nm is successfully decorated on the surface of GO sheets with the host ZIF-8 framework maintained in the s...

Abstract A simple, eco-friendly, green routine co-precipitation method was experimented to synthesize iron nanoparticles (Fe-NPs) using the cell-free supernatant of actinobacteria. The biosynthesized nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometer (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), zeta potential analyser and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The synthesized nanoparticles were crystalline, quasi-spherical in shape and their average size ranged from 65.0 to 86.7 nm. In our radical scavenging assays...

o IS, De Souza AO Abstract Biogenic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were obtained throughout the fungal biosynthesis using extracellular filtrate of the epiphytic fungus B. ochroleuca and were incorporated in cotton and polyester fabrics by common impregnation procedure that was repeated once, twice or four times. Both fabrics were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the effectiveness of impregnation was determined using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP OES). The AgNPs loaded fabrics showed potent antimicrobial activity on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli as well...
