Association between Platelet Parameters and Glaucoma Severity in Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma.

Association between Platelet Parameters and Glaucoma Severity in Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma. J Ophthalmol. 2019;2019:3425023 Authors: Ma Y, Han J, Li S, Zhang A, Cao W, Sun X Abstract Purpose: To evaluate platelet parameters in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) patients and to explore the association between platelet parameters and POAG severity. Methods: A total of 402 consecutive POAG patients and 408 healthy control subjects from the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Eye and ENT Hospital, Fudan University, were consecutively recruited between January 2016 and October 2018. Detailed ophthalmological and systematic examinations were performed. Blood samples for platelet parameters, including platelet count (PLT), platelet distribution width (PDW), plateletcrit (PCT), mean platelet volume (MPV), and platelet large cell ratio (P-LCR), were analyzed using an automated hematology analyzer in the department of clinical laboratory science of the hospital. The POAG subgroups were classified according to age (

AbstractIntroductionThe CoQun® study is a multicenter, controlled trial aimed to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of Coqun®, an ophthalmic solution of Coenzyme q10 (CoQ10) and Vitamin E (VitE), in patients affected by primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Pre-clinical studies and small non-controlled clinical trials have previously shown a potential role of CoQ10 and VitE in glaucoma neuroprotection, both in vitro and in vivo.MethodsRandomized, parallel arm, multicenter, double-blind study. POAG patients with an IOP ranging from 17 to 21  mm Hg on monotherapy with a prostaglandin analogue (PGA) will be consi...

LibbyAbstractAxonal degeneration is an active, highly controlled process that contributes to beneficial processes, such as developmental pruning, but also to neurodegeneration. In glaucoma, ocular hypertension leads to vision loss by killing the output neurons of the retina, the retinal ganglion cells (RGC). Multiple processes have been proposed to contribute to and/or mediate axonal injury in glaucoma including: neuroinflammation, loss of neurotropic factors, dysregulation of the neuro...

Here we summarize data on DA and DRs in the eye, cardiovascular system and endocrine pancreas, three districts where DA and DA-related drugs have been studied and the expression of DR documented. In the eye, DA modulates ciliary blood flow and aqueous production, which impacts on intraocular pre...
