How Thoracic Surgeon Manage Tracheal Tumours in African Country? (Case series)

ConclusionPrimary tumors of the trachea remain of reserved prognosis with 5-year survival of 57% of all histological types combined. Computed tomodensitometry and tracheobronchial fibroscopy remain the means of reference exploration in the diagnosis and assessment of surgical resectability.

In conclusion, the TMVD concept may be more appropriate and sensitive compared with the MVD or VM alone in predicting tumor aggressiveness and patient survival, particularly in RCC, which is a highly vascularized, VM-rich neoplasm, and certain VM formation-associated genes are negatively associated with the survival of patients with RCC. Authors: Huang F, Cong W, Xiao J, Zhou Y, Gong M, Sun J, Shan L, Xiao Q, Wang L, Liu J, Yu Z, Jia H Abstract The aim of the present study was to elucidate the association between excessive chronic iodine exposure and the risk of developing papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). The demographic information and pathological characteristics of patients with thyroid nodules were retrieved from medical records at The Second Hospital of Shandong University. A fasting urine specimen was collected, and creatinine and urinary iodine concentration (UIC) were determined. The water iodine data from the domicile districts of these ...

Authors: Jeffords E, Freeman S, Cole B, Root K, Chekouo T, Melvin RG, Bemis L, Simmons GE Abstract Y-box binding protein 1 (YB-1) is a regulatory protein associated with oncogenesis and poor prognosis in patients with cancer. In the cell, YB-1 functions as a DNA and RNA binding protein that promotes or suppresses expression of target genes. The cancer-promoting activity of YB-1 is mediated through its activation of oncogenes and repression of tumor suppressor genes. Lipogenic enzyme stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD1) drives the production of endogenous monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) in cells and protects against t...

Abstract The risk of malignancy in inflammatory myopathy patients is well recognized. However, the incidence of germ cell tumor (GCT) with inflammatory myopathy is low, and most reported cases of GCT also exhibit testicular tumors. Therefore, a case of extragonadal GCT with dermatomyositis (DM) is reported in the current study to better understand this paraneoplastic syndrome. A 53-year-old man presented with bilateral cervical lymph node enlargement. A lymph node biopsy showed embryonal carcinoma, and computed tomography showed multiple lymph node and lung metastases. A period of one month after bleomycin, etopos...

Authors: Zhao E, Bai X Abstract Objective: We aimed at identifying the key genes of prognostic value in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) microenvironment and construct a risk score prognostic model. Materials and Methods: Immune and stromal scores were calculated using the ESTIMATE algorithm. A total of 539 ccRCC cases were divided into high- and low-score groups. The differentially expressed genes in immune and stromal cells for the prognosis of ccRCC were screened. The relationship between survival outcome and gene expression was evaluated using univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard regre...

Authors: Ma HM, Yu M, Wu C, Huang HB, Li YW, Zhang P, Huang JJ, Cheng L, Feng G, Li GR Abstract Background: The spondin-2 (SPON2) gene is overexpressed in multiple malignant tumors and may promote tumor aggressiveness. However, its expression profile and functional roles in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) are still unclear. Methods: SPON2 expression in ccRCC was evaluated using expression data from TCGA and GEO databases, then confirmed by local patient population (94 patients). The clinical significance of SPON2 expression was evaluated. Downregulation of SPON2 was performed using small-interfering RNA...
