Authors: Zou SL, Chen YL, Ge ZZ, Qu YY, Cao Y, Kang ZX Abstract Growing evidence have revealed the serum exosomal miRNAs emerged as biomarkers for various cancer types, including colorectal cancer (CRC). Here, we sought to explore the potential clinical significance of serum exosomal miR-150-5p in CRC. A total of 133 CRC patients and 60 healthy volunteers as control group were recruited in this study. Exosomes were isolated from the serum of all the participants. The total RNA was isolated from the exosomes and the serum exosomal miR-150-5p levels were measured by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain...

This study explores the associations between lifestyle and occupational factors and participation in colorectal cancer (CRC) screening among men and women aged 50 and over and living in Australia. We used weighted data from the Australian National Health Survey 2014–15 to produce population estimates. Lifestyle variables investigated were smoking, physical activity, alcohol consumption, fruit and vegetable consumption, and body mass index, while the occupational variables were labour force status, occupation, and participation in shift work. Using weighted data, 1,990,287 men (55%) and 1,898,232 women (49%) reported ...

SabatinoAbstractIntroductionScreening for colorectal cancer (CRC) is effective in reducing CRC burden. Primary care clinics have an important role in increasing screening. We investigated associations between clinic-level CRC screening rates of the clinics serving low income, medically underserved population, and clinic-level screening interventions, clinic characteristics and community contexts.MethodsUsing data (2015–16) from the Centers for Dis...

Publication date: September 2019Source: Journal of Functional Foods, Volume 60Author(s): Catarina I. Teixeira-Guedes, David Oppolzer, Ana I. Barros, Cristina Pereira-WilsonAbstractIt is known that diets high in legumes can help in the prevention and/or reduction of colorectal cancer. These effects may result, in part, from their high phenolic content. The aims of this study were to characterize the effect of sprouting on phenolic content and antioxidant activity, and test the anti-colorectal cancer effects including possible potentiation of 5-fluorouracil efficacy.Sprouting increased 1.7-fold the total phenolic content and...

Conclusions: The results showed that quantification of mAb in clinical samples does not strictly require a tandem mass spectrometry system, and LC-HRMS is also relevant in this context. This first study implementing a quantitative LC-HRMS assay with a specific stable isotope-labeled mAb internal standard paves the way for more robust clinical monitoring of anticancer mAbs.

CONCLUSIONS: A total of 74.4% of colorectal cancers diagnosed before age 50 years are left sided. In light of recent changes to screening recommendations, distribution of disease in young patients is important to both provider and patient education and decision-making.
