Treatment of biowaste to pharmaceutical excipient

This study describes an effective treatment process to recover useful biomaterial from eggshell waste due to its potential application as pharmaceutical excipient and its utilization in pharmaceutical products. Egg shells are rich source of mineral salts, mainly calcium carbonate (about 94%). The egg shell CaCO3 was s ubjected to several chemical processes and recycled into pure CaCO3.The purity of the prepared calcium carbonate was within the pharmacopoeial limits and the findings indicated that it can be used as an alternative pharmaceutical excipient.
