Interplay between thyroid cancer cells and macrophages: effects on IL-32 mediated cell death and thyroid cancer cell migration

ConclusionsFrom our data, we conclude that TAM-derived TNF α induces IL-32β in TC cells. Although IL-32β does not affect TC cell migration, alternative splicing of IL-32 towards the IL-32β isoform may be beneficial for TC cell survival through induction of the pro-survival cytokine IL-8.

StrefezziSummaryMalignant melanomas (MMs) represent 7% of all malignant neoplasms in dogs. Oral melanocytic neoplasms are often malignant and associated with poor prognosis. There are no universally accepted prognostic markers for canine oral melanoma. Galectin (Gal)-3 is a prognostic marker for human neoplasms such as thyroid, gastric, colorectal and prostate cancers. The protein is related to processes that favour cancer progression, s...

Authors: Gabora K, Piciu A, Bădulescu IC, Larg MI, Stoian IA, Piciu D Abstract Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) are gaining more ground in oncology, they are widely used in the treatment of multiple types of cancers; still important side effects limit their efficacy. The aim of this study is to evaluate the existing medical literature on TKI induced thyroid dysfunction, to assess the adverse effects of targeted therapy on thyroid function in oncological patients and to evaluate the effects of thyroid dysfunction on disease prognosis. We included in this review 22 original studies published between 2010 and 2019. W...

ConclusionThis case draws attention to the unique clinical value of molecular testing in the diagnosis of MTC. The authors believe this case supports the consideration for molecular testing to prevent missed diagnoses in cases of rare benign-appearing disease.

SUMMARY: The use of transoral sonography–guided fine-needle aspiration for intraoperative localization of retropharyngeal masses has been described by Fornage et al. The purpose of this study was to assess the accuracy of this technique. We reviewed the images and medical records of 26 patients with a retropharyngeal lesion suspicious for a metastatic lymph node of Rouviere identified on CT and/or PET/CT. There were 14 patients with a history of thyroid cancer, 7 with mucosal squamous cell carcinoma, 1 with renal cell carcinoma, 1 with parotid acinic cell cancer, 1 with metastatic colon adenocarcinoma, and 2 with no ...

Yicheng Ni Cancer remains a major cause of death globally. Given its relapsing and fatal features, curing cancer seems to be something hardly possible for the majority of patients. In view of the development in cancer therapies, this article summarizes currently available cancer therapeutics and cure potential by cancer type and stage at diagnosis, based on literature and database reviews. Currently common cancer therapeutics include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. However, treatment with curative intent by these methods are mainly eligible for patients with localized diseas...

Authors: Qiu B, Li HQ, Chang QG, Yin DT Abstract BACKGROUND Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is a very rare, highly lethal malignant cancer. Our aim in this study was to develop nomograms that predict survival in ATC patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS ATC incidence and mortality were assessed via joinpoint regression analysis of 567 ATC patients selected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results 18 Registries Research database. Predictive models were established via univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis of potential risk factors and used to produce nomograms. Performance of the nomograms in t...
