Should The Experience of Sleep Apnea Treatment Be Like An Alien Attack?

Loud snoring ruins the lives of millions: the snorers’ as well as those who have to listen to it frequently. However, snoring isn’t just an annoyance. It can hint at a serious sleeping disorder: sleep apnea. Not only does the condition cause frustration in itself, but when looking at the comfort of it, its treatment could be compared to an attack of Aliens. How could digital health help patients who undergo sleep apnea treatment? Are there any ways to get rid of the Aliens? If you snore really loudly and feel tired even after a full night’s sleep, you might have the condition. Its most common type, obstructive sleep apnea – when you stop breathing briefly and repeatedly during sleep due to the relaxation of throat muscles -, sours the life of more than 936 million people worldwide. That estimate – nearly 10 times higher than previous ones – stems from the study entitled Global Prevalence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), published in 2018, which was conducted b...

CONCLUSION: This study confirmed published results that labour progresses more slowly as maternal BMI increases. The study was performed in a centre with a specialized BMI pregnancy clinic; thus weight gain adherence, awareness of labour differences, and patient counselling may have contributed to low Caesarean section rates. Obstetric care providers should consider differences in maternal BMI in labour progression before undertaking a potentially premature Caesarean birth, especially in primiparas. This study aims to validate an ambulatory circadian monitoring (ACM) device for the detection of sleep and wake states and apply it to the evaluation of sleep quality in patients with Parkinson disease (PD). A polysomnographic validation study was conducted on a group of patients with different sleep disorders in a preliminary phase, followed by a pilot study to apply this methodology to PD patients. The ACM device makes it possible to estimate the main sleep parameters very accurately, as demonstrated by: (a) the lack of significant differences between the mean values detected by PSG and ACM in time in bed (TIB), total sl...
