Authors: Khan MY, Pandit S, Jayagopal PB, Oomman A, Chockalingam KC, Ramakrishnan A, Mane A, Mehta S, Shah S Abstract Background: Real-world data on the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs (AHDs) in India is limited. The present study aims to provide updated evidence regarding the effectiveness of olmesartan as monotherapy or in combination with other AHDs in Indian patients with essential hypertension. Methods: Electronic medical record data of adult patients who were diagnosed with essential hypertension (≥140/90 mmHg) and were prescribed olmesartan as mono- or add-on therapy were retrospectively analy...

Conclusion: Gastrointestinal side effects being most common side effect of metformin can lead to discontinuation of therapy. So before extensive evaluation of any GI problem in patient on metformin, other methods can be tried like temporary discontinuation, dose titration or proper intake of medicine. These side effects may also occur even after prolonged treatment with metformin. PMID: 32738838 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusions: The results demonstrate that IV and oral levonadifloxacin therapy has excellent clinical activity against MRSA and offers advantage compared to other quinolones which generally lack MRSA coverage. Levonadifloxacin is safe and well tolerated in the treatment of ABSSSI caused by Gram -positive pathogens including MRSA as well as non-inferior to IV and oral linezolid, respectively. Similar pharmacokinetic profile of IV and oral levonadifloxacin provides an option for IV to oral switch for the treatment of subjects. Both oral and IV levonadifloxacin have recently been granted approval in India for the treatment of...

Authors: Gupta R, Pamecha H Abstract Objective: To find the serum hsCRP (high sensitive C reactive protein) levels in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients and compare its level between type 2 DM patients and healthy control subjects. To find the relationship of hsCRP levels in type 2 DM with and without vascular complications. To find the correlation of hsCRP with HbA1c and duration of type 2 DM among cases and to find the optimum cut-off value for hsCRP among type 2 DM patients. Methods: The study was conducted on type 2 DM patients with or without microvascular or macrovascular complications and nondiabetic...

Authors: Yagoglu AI, Dizdar OS, Erdem S, Akcakaya B, Gunal AI Abstract BACKGROUND: Linagliptin does not require dose adjustment in diabetes mellitus patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). But, renal effects of linagliptin are not clear. Our aim was to examine the effect of linagliptin on renal disease progression in only insulin dependent type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients with CKD. METHODS: Stage 3-4 CKD patients were randomized into 2 groups in this prospective randomized controlled study. In the first group, linagliptin 5mg was added in addition to the background insulin therapy. In the second group...

In this study, we showed that hyper-O-GlcNAcylation reduced the expression of myogenin, a transcription factor critical for terminal muscle development, in C2C12 myoblasts differentiation by O-GlcNAcylation on Thr9 of myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2c. Furthermore, we showed that O-GlcNAcylation on Mef2c inhibited its DNA binding affinity to myogenin promoter. Taken together, we demonstrated that hyper-O-GlcNAcylation attenuates skeletal muscle differentiation by increased O-GlcNAcylation on Mef2c, which downregulates its DNA binding affinity.
