Microglial BDNF, PI3K, and p-ERK in the Spinal Cord Are Suppressed by Pulsed Radiofrequency on Dorsal Root Ganglion to Ease SNI-Induced Neuropathic Pain in Rats. Pain Res Manag. 2019;2019:5948686 Authors: Xu X, Fu S, Shi X, Liu R Abstract Background: Pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) on the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) has been applied to alleviate neuropathic pain effectively, yet the mechanisms underlying pain reduction owing to this treatment are not clarified completely. The activated microglia, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), and phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinase (p-ERK) in the spinal cord were demonstrated to be involved in developing neuropathic pain. Also, it has been just known that PRF on DRG inhibits the microglial activation in nerve injury rats. Here, we aim to investigate whether PRF treatment could regulate the levels of BDNF, PI3K, and p-ERK in the spinal cord of rats with spared nerve injury (SNI) via suppressing the spinal microglia activation to ease neuropathic pain. Methods: The rats with SNI were intrathecally treated with minocycline (specific microglia inhibitor) or same volume of dimethyl sulfoxide once daily, beginning from 1 h before nerve transection to 7 days. PRF was applied adjacent to the L4-L5 DRG of rats with SNI at 45 V for 6 min on the seventh postoperative day, whereas the free-PRF rats were treated without PRF. The withdrawal thresho...

Authors: Arezoomandan R, Aliaghaei A, Khodagholi F, Haghparast A Abstract Glial glutamate transporters (GLT-1) is responsible for glutamate homeostasis. GLT-1 expression and glutamate uptake can be affected by addictive drugs and can be used as a target in addiction pharmacotherapy. It has been shown that minocycline, an antibiotic with anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties, can upregulate the expression of GLT-1. In the present study, in morphine-dependent rats, the effect of minocycline on expression of GLT-1 in nucleus accumbens was investigated by immunohistochemistry. The expression of GLT-1 signif...

STOMACH bloating is usually remedied by making simple dietary changes. If quick fixes do not alleviate the tummy swelling, this may signal a more serious condition, including one that specifically affects women.

Conclusion: This qualitative study offers insight into the patient's perspective of dental hygienists administering LA. Participants supported dental hygienists administering LA and appreciated the aspects of patient-centered care that this practice provided. Patient participants were unclear on educational requirements and training, but supported legislation allowing dental hygienists to administer LA. PMID: 31628175 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Chimed-Ochir O, Mine Y, Fujino Y Abstract OBJECTIVES: The current research aimed to study the relationship between health-related quality of life (poor perceived health/unhealthy days) and workers' pain. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 1360 Japanese workers of a Japanese company in Kyushu. Health-related quality of life was measured by HRQOL-4 tool developed by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the USA. Pain was assessed by numeric rating scale with 0-10 points. Regression analysis was conducted to identify the relationship between health-related quality of life and ...

AbstractPurposeThe oldest old, described as those aged 85 and older, is a growing cancer population. There are limited studies evaluating the symptoms of the oldest old cancer patient population. Our study aimed to evaluate symptom frequency and clinical symptom change as assessed by the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS) of the oldest old ( ≥ 85) compared to older adult (65–84) and general adult (18–64) outpatient cancer patients on initial consult and follow-up visit.MethodsRetrospective review of a total of 441 patients, 200 randomly sampled patients in the general and older adult group and ...

This article aims to evaluate the effectiveness, security, and performance difficulty of GIB in patients with pelvic and perineal oncological pain.MethodsA retrospective study between January 2016 and August 2017. Patients with poorly controlled pelvic oncological pain and patients experimenting opioid side effects in which GIB was performed ambulatory were included. Prognostic GIB was performed, under echographic and fluoroscopic control, with local anesthetic and corticoid. The neurolytic block was performed under fluoroscopic guidance. The technique was performed by the same anesthetist with pain management competence. ...
