Authors: Petzold T, Thienel M, Lüsebrink E, Massberg S Abstract A patient with a history of colon cancer was admitted to our emergency department due to progressive dyspnea, chest pain, and swelling of the upper limbs and face. A central venous port device had been implanted into the right subclavian vein for administration of systemic chemotherapy several months prior. Thoracic computed tomography scan revealed a 2.8 cm-long thrombus arising from the tip of the venous catheter, which completely occluded the superior vena cava in close proximity to the right atrium. We report the case of a 53 year-old male presenting with hematuria, pain and induration of the penis 2 and half years after the diagnosis of left colon cancer. CT scan demonstrated involvement of the corpus spongiosum and corpora cavernosa with enlarged external inguinal lymph nodes and asymptomatic metastasis in the liver and lungs. The finding of a penile lesion in a cancer patient is an alarming sign and should indicate a disseminated disease. The prognosis of penile metastasis is poor.

Rationale: Primary renal lymphoma (PRL) is a rare malignancy due to the absence of lymphatic tissues in the kidney, and patients with PRL have been reported to have a poor prognosis due to its rapid invasiveness and limited treatment strategies. Colon cancer is the third most common cancer, and has a high mortality rate. Both malignant diseases predominantly affected elderly men; however, a case with concomitant occurrence of the 2 cancers is extremely rare. Patient concerns: A 78-year-old male patient with abdominal pain came to our hospital. Computed tomography (CT) indicated malignant masses in the left kidney, lef...

Rationale: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers all over the world, and approximately 70% of the newly diagnosed patients are over 65 years old. Due to the aging of society, there will be more and more elderly patients of CRC in the future. Treatment of CRC in elderly patients is much more challenging thanks to multiple factors including disabling comorbidities as well as declines in organs function, especially in advanced or metastatic settings. Patient concerns: An 82-year-old female without history of disease was admitted to the emergency room because of abdominal pain in December 2009. A compu...

Rationale: The brain, liver, adrenal glands, and bone are the most common sites of metastatic disease in patients with lung cancer. Symptomatic gastrointestinal metastases are rare. In the present report, we describe a rare case of a patient with intestinal obstruction due to solitary colonic metastasis from primary lung adenocarcinoma, wherein the intestinal obstruction was the first symptom of lung cancer. Patient concerns: A 74-year-old man was admitted to the emergency room with abdominal pain and vomiting, and abdominal computed tomography (CT) indicated obstruction of the ascending colon due to a huge mass. Dia...
