This study used prospectively collected data from a state-wide quality collaborative. The presence of AUD was determined using the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test for Consumption (AUDIT-C), with a score ≥ 4 in men and ≥ 3 in women suggestive of AUD. AbstractAs nearly one third of transgender individuals in the USA are obese, more transgender patients may pursue bariatric surgery as a means of sustaining weight loss. Transgender individuals, like bariatric surgery patients, have high rates of mood pathology, substance use, abuse, and self-harm behaviors. However, there is no research on transgender bariatric surgery candidates. The aim of this review is to elucidate potential psychosocial risk factors, including sex hormone management, which may impact surgical clearance, presurgical psychosocial assessment, and treatment recommendations.

ConclusionsAmong both patient groups, phentermine was more effective in achieving weight loss. Lorcaserin had dyslipidemia improvements only, among surgical patients who achieved significant weight reduction. Anti-obesity medications as part of weight management programs can result in weight loss among non-surgical and surgical patients, or halt weight regain among surgical patients.
