Incisional pyoderma gangrenosum after caesarean section: Two case reports

DiscussionDefinitive diagnosis of PG is essential because its treatment differs from that of SSI. PG after caesarean section can be misdiagnosed as SSI, even when there is a history of wound dehiscence or PG.

The objective here was to examine whether a female humpback whale's social state (i.e. escorted by a male or not) is related to her endocrine condition, and whether male dominance ranking is related to testosterone levels. Skin and blubber biopsies were collected from the east and west Australian humpback whale populations in 2010-2016 (n = 252) at multiple times throughout the winter-spring breeding season. Steroid hormones were extracted from blubber and concentrations of progesterone (a marker for pregnancy), testosterone (a marker of male testicular activity) and oestradiol (a potential marker of ovarian activity) ...

Conclusions In both mouse and human, uNK cells are the most prominent immune cells that occupy the maternal-fetal interface. The uNK cells appear to engage and establish complex interactions with the surrounding tissue, which impact their function. As more cell subsets are identified within the heterogeneous uNK cell population, it is anticipated that their functional heterogeneity will extend beyond vascular modification, growth-promotion and memory generation. Conclusions and Future Perspectives It is now evident that NK/ILC family plays a pivotal role in the immune defenses. Recent studies in murine and human settings demonstrated that the expression of several inhibitory checkpoints, that may be detrimental in the tumor context, is not restricted to T lymphocytes, revealing an important, yet poorly appreciated, contribution of their expression on innate immune cells. Thus, in the recent years different immunotherapy approaches, based on the blockade of inhibitory NK cell receptors, have been developed in order to unleash NK cell cytotoxicity. This is particularly important in...

In this study, vaginal microbiome was divided in five biotypes, being four of them dominated by lactobacilli and considered as healthy (pH 5.0) and higher diversity. In a healthy status, microbiota is balanced and forms a stable ecological unit dominated by Lactobacillus species, which fixes pH below 5.0 and controls non-desirable groups. In a pathogenic process, the microbiome shifts to a dysbiotic state, in which lactobacilli drop, pH is increased to values above 4.5 and other groups such as Gardnerella, Atopobium, Prevotella, and Streptococcus, among others, can overgrow (Srinivasan et al., 2012). Short chain fatty acid...

Conclusions: We have shown that severity of MWS symptoms gradually increased with age toward distinct generation-specific phenotypes. A uniform trajectory of disease evolution has encouraged us to postpone institution of IL-1 blockade in affected oligosymptomatic children. This report illustrates importance of close interdisciplinary collaboration. Introduction Cryopyrinopathies (Cryopyrin Associated Periodic Syndromes, CAPS) belong to autoinflammatory disorders with autosomal dominant inheritance caused by the gain-of-function point mutation of NLRP3 (NACHT, LRR, and PYD domains-containing protein 3) gene which en...

In conclusion, our findings identify ALCAM as a novel therapeutic target for preventing corneal allograft rejection in high-risk patient populations. Moreover, given the documented contribution of ALCAM to (lymph)angiogenesis, DC migration, and T cell activation, ALCAM blockade might represent a therapeutic strategy for treating other immune-mediated inflammatory conditions, such as solid organ transplant rejection, allergy or autoimmune diseases. Experimental Procedures Cloning, Expression, and Purification of I/F8-Fc and KSF-Fc For cloning of I/F8-Fc and KSF-Fc the respective scFv sequence was amplified from previousl...

We describe the case of a 28-year-old woman with pyoderma gangrenosum in the perineal region during pregnancy. Cytological analysis of a skin biopsy specimen showed neutrophilic infiltrates across all the layers of the dermis, confirming the diagnosis of pyoderma gangrenosum. Determining a management plan, including the mode of delivery, was difficult. Oral prednisolone was started and her ulcer started to improve, but she still had the ulcer when she reached full term. Because there was a concern that the ulcer would be worsened by vaginal delivery, cesarean section was performed. After her delivery, pyoderma gangrenosum ...

A 31-year-old woman gravida 5 para 4, 18 weeks pregnant, presented to our emergency department with rapid bilateral breast enlargement over a 3-month period, with associated erythema and pain (Fig.  1). She had completed a course of antibiotics, prescribed by her primary care physician, but the breast erythema persisted. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated thickening and generalized edema or hyperemia of skin overlying the breasts (Fig. 2). Full thickness skin biopsies showed chronic der mal inflammation without evidence of malignancy.

This report investigates the combined effects of 3 levels of mid pregnancy nutrition (MPN) × 2 levels of postnatal nutrition during lactation (PNN) on skin follicle development and the subsequent physical properties and value of mohair until 19 months of age. Does were housed in individual pens in an outdoor feedlot from day 47 of pregnancy until 13 weeks postpartum. Kids grazed pasture following weaning at 16 weeks. MPN treatments commenced from day 47 as follows: Control (C), does fed to lose live weight (-67 g/d); Maintenance (M), does fed to maintain live weight; Supplemented (S), does fed to gain live wei...
