Reconstructrion is generally undertaken with interposed colon as a substitute conduit, but carries several risks. Alternative reconstruction of the foregut with pedicled retrosternal jejunum anastomosed at the level of the base of the tongue is described for the first time.Total hypopharyngo-esophagogastrectomy is a relatively rare procedure that can be indicated with life-threatening caustic foregut injuries. While mild and moderate injuries can be managed conservatively, severe cases require emergency surgery.
