Characteristics of Chinese chronic cough patients

Publication date: Available online 6 June 2019Source: Pulmonary Pharmacology &TherapeuticsAuthor(s): Li Long, Kefang LaiAbstractChronic cough is one of the most common complains for patients seeking medical attention in both general practice and respiratory specialist clinics. Cough variant asthma, eosinophilic bronchitis, upper airway cough syndrome, as well as gastro-esophageal reflux disease are common conditions associated with chronic cough, and cough variant asthma, eosinophilic bronchitis account for a higher proportion of patients with chronic cough in China than in Western countries. An older female predominance has been reported in most Western countries, which may be attributed to a higher cough reflex sensitivity in female, especially those post-menopausal female. However, studies conducted in China showed that patients with chronic cough have a nearly similar gender distribution and most of them are in their late 30s or early 40s, despite the similar gender and age difference in cough reflex sensitivity as Western countries. Environmental and occupational exposures, cigarette smoking, unhealthy lifestyle might play a role in the distinct age and gender distribution of Chinese chronic cough patients, yet further study is needed to clarify it.

Authors: Bergland OU, Søraas CL, Larstorp ACK, Halvorsen LV, Hjørnholm U, Hoffman P, Høieggen A, Fadl Elmula FEM Abstract PURPOSE: The blood pressure (BP) lowering effect of renal sympathetic denervation (RDN) in treatment-resistant hypertension shows variation amongst the existing randomised studies. The long-term efficacy and safety of RDN require further investigation. For the first time, we report BP changes and safety up to 7 years after RDN, compared to drug adjustment in the randomised Oslo RDN study. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with treatment-resistant hypertension, defined...

This study therefore investigated the impacts of RRCC on air pollution based on detailed household heating data obtained from intensive face-to-face interviews in Shandong province, China. The total contributions and specific contributions of coal, stoves, and coal-stove combinations to air pollution were simulated using the WRF-CAMx-PSAT model. The RRCC for heating had a considerable impact on air pollution, contributing 36.1, 9.1, and 16.1% of atmospheric SO2, NOx, and PM2.5 in winter, respectively. Different coal-stove combinations had different impacts on air pollution and mitigation efficiencies. The combination of bi...

Abstract Limited studies focus on the occurrence, removal rate and seasonal variation of substituted diphenylamine antioxidants (SDPAs) in surface water and wastewater in China. In this paper, the detection method of SDPAs was established by the ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Daily variations suggested that significant variations were found for the concentrations of some SDPAs in the influent. It was found that the SDPAs could be detected in all the effluent samples and C8/C8-DPA was the predominant compound in two WWTPs. The levels of most SDPAs in the effluent were much lower t...

AbstractPurposeTo investigate the efficacy and safety of bencycloquidium bromide nasal spray (BCQB) in patients with persistent allergic rhinitis (PAR).MethodsWe enrolled 720 patients from 15 hospitals across China and randomly assigned them into BCQB group or placebo group (90  μg per nostril qid) to receive a 4-week treatment. Visual analog scale (VAS) for rhinorrhea, sneezing, nasal congestion, itching and overall symptoms were recorded by patients every day. Anterior rhinoscopy scoring was completed by doctors on every visit. Adverse events were recorded in detail.ResultsA total of 354 and 351 patients were inc...
