Brain involvement in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD): A systematic review
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality which usually is considered to be related to cardiac involvement, while scarce attention is addressed to brain damage. Viceversa NAFLD is associated with asymptomatic brain lesions, alterations in cerebral perfusion and activity, cognitive impairment and brain aging and with increased risk and severity of both ischemic and haemorrhagic stroke. Besides known metabolic risk factors, NAFLD is characterized by a pro inflammatory state, which contributes to atherosclerosis and microglia activation, endothelial dysfunction, pro-coagulant state and platelets activation, which in turn promote both micro and macrovascular damage eventually responsible for clinical and subclinical cerebrovascular alterations.
Conclusion: These findings suggest that consumption of peanuts high in oleic acid (D7) may have the potential to delay primary fatty liver symptoms. PMID: 33033472 [PubMed]

CONCLUSIONS: Considering the low number of university students disclosing sexual assaults to health professionals or support services, the results of this survey suggest more work is needed to facilitate greater disclosures to health professionals enabling victims to access the services they need regardless of alcohol use. CONCLUSIONS: Young adult IS patients in Korea exhibit low awareness and poor management of their risk factors. Although the short-term outcome was relatively favorable in those patients, having SLE was associated with unfavorable outcomes.
