Co-designing with people with dementia: a scoping review of involving people with dementia in design research
Fifty million people worldwide were living with dementia in 2018 and the numbers are expected to triple to 152 million by 2050 [1]. Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning in a way that, most of the time, compromises the person ’s daily-life activities and social interactions [2]. Some of the main functions affected in people with dementia (PwD) are memory, verbal skills, visual perception, and attention span [3]. These cognitive impairments hinder PwD from expressing what they want and how they feel, which makes caring for PwD different from caring for older adults who can communicate their needs and preferences.
