Almanza RoblesAbstractThe aim of the present work is to study the corrosion of NiAl2O4 spinel by V2O5, Fe2O3 and vanadium slag. Samples of NiAl2O4 spinel with the oxides mentioned above were heated at 10ºC/min from room temperature up to 1500ºC. Holding time was 12 h and cooling rate was 10ºC/min. The effects of these oxides on the corrosion of NiAl2O4 spinel were simulated at the beginning with HSC®5.1 software and the results of the tests were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-Ray diffraction (XRD). The experimental results show Fe2O3 and V2O5 reacted with NiAl2O4 forming NiFe2O4 and Ni3V2O8 respectively. In the case of the vanadium slag different ions from its composition diffuse into the NiAl2O4 spinel structure forming.Graphical abstract
