What indicators have been used to evaluate the impact of music on the health and wellbeing of people with dementia? A review using meta-narrative methods

The value of music to people with dementia is widely acknowledged [1,2]. However, research into music and dementia is still a relatively new and developing field, and appears to have evolved fairly independently within different disciplines such as music therapy, psychology and nursing. Systematic reviews synthesise evidence about the effects of music, but tend to focus on one type of intervention or outcome variable, such as music therapy [3] or anxiety [4], and include only certain types of studies [5].
