CONCLUSIONS: Postmenopausal women with high/increasing ET are at increased risk of breast, ovarian and lung cancer. It is important that clinicians are aware of these risks as TVS is a common investigation. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. geer Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) accounts for approximately 10–15% of all lung cancers. The prognosis is poor with median survival in the advanced stage remaining at around 12 months. Despite applying every known therapeutic approach, no major breakthrough has improved the overall survival in the last 30 years. Historically, experiments performed on conventional cell lines may have limitations of not accurately reflecting the complex biological and genomic heterogeneity of this disease. However, additional knowledge gained from recently developed genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) and patient deriv...

The dianostic techniques have been upgraded with rapid on site evaluation (ROSE) and currently from 2014 real time elastography is being evaluated as a ROSE technique. Areas covered: A thoro...

Abstract BACKGROUND: There remains debate over the best invasive diagnostic modality for mediastinal nodal evaluation. Prior studies have limited generalizability and insufficient power to detect differences in rare adverse events. We compared the risks and costs of endobronchial ultrasound-guided nodal aspiration (EBUS) and mediastinoscopy performed for any indication in a large national cohort. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study (2007-2015) using MarketScan-a claims database of individuals with employer-provided insurance in the United States. Patients who underwent multi-modality mediastinal evalu...

Conclusion: The cell area obtained via the 19G needle was significantly larger than that obtained with the 21G needle. Further multicenter randomized studies are needed to identify the utility of the Flex 19G needle in diagnosing/subtyping lymphoproliferative disorders and adequacy for molecular testing in non–small cell lung cancer.

Abstract RATIONALE: When stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) is an option for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, distinguishing between N0, N1 and N2 or N3 (N2|3) disease is important. OBJECTIVES: To develop a prediction model for estimating the probability of N0, N1, and N2|3 disease. METHODS: Consecutive patients with clinical-radiographic stage T1-3/N0-3/M0 NSCLC that underwent endobronchial ultrasound-guided staging from a single center were included. Multivariate ordinal logistic regression analysis was used to predict the presence of N0, N1 or N2|3 disease. Temporal validation used ...
