Association between anemia and blood transfusion with long-term mortality following cardiac surgery

ConclusionsLong-term mortality is significantly high in patients who are anaemic, regardless of their transfusion status. Preoperative anaemia is a strong, independent predictor of mortality and therefore should be managed prior to cardiac surgery.
