Conclusions The addition of MNBs to culture medium offers an innovative approach for the oxygenation of transplantable tissue, such as islet cells. This study demonstrated that MNBs filled with air provided the most optimal addition to the islet cell culture medium for improving islet cell survival amongst the treatment groups we tested. Given these findings, we hypothesize that MNBs may also improve the oxygenation and survival of a variety of other tissues, including fat grafts from lipoaspirate, chronic wounds, and solid organs.

Ketosis-prone type 2 diabetes (“Flatbush diabetes”) carries features of both classical type 1 and type 2 diabetes and is highly prevalent in African populations. The disease, which is highly ketosis-prone, but neither chronically insulinopenic nor autoimmune, is discussed regarding pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment from a patient case perspective.

ConclusionT1D prevalence is constantly increasing worldwide, but at slower pace in Africa in comparison to developed countries. Difficulties to access to high standard care and population poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa, represents a major independent factor of poor therapeutic observance.

AbstractPancreas transplantation is considered the curative treatment for severe type 1 diabetes mellitus in selected cases. Since the first procedure in 1966, surgical techniques have been improved. The current trend among most medical centers, as well as at our Institution, is enteric drainage and systemic venous or portal anastomosis. ConclusionNeedle flexor tenotomies are a relatively safe and effective treatment compared to tenotomies done by scalpel, both as treatment for ulcers and to prevent formation of new ulcers associated with hammer, mallet and claw toe deformities. As a side note, transfer complications are avoidable if all toes on one or both feet are tenotomized in one procedure.

ConclusionOur study showed a significant association between alterations in intestinal microbial composition and T1D; however, in some articles, it is not clear which one happens first. Investigation of altered gut microbiota can help in the early detection of T1D before seropositivity. Targeted microbiome modulation can be a novel potential therapeutic strategy.
