99mTc-TRODAT-1 SPECT imaging findings and clinical staging of Parkinson s disease: Does a correlation exist?

Conclusion: Significant asymmetry with the contralateral side being affected more than the ipsilateral side was a hallmark in patients with lateralization of symptoms, i.e. in TD PD group. The binding ratio of the ipsilateral striatum may serve useful in following the progression of the disease and in prognosticating the clinical course, as it represents the level of remaining functional dopaminergic neuronal reserve in the striatum.
