SYNGO Consortium releases public data resource for universal reference in synapse research

(Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard) Disruptions to the brain's synapses lie at the root of many disorders. The international SYNGO Consortium, which brings together 15 laboratories and the Gene Ontology (GO) Consortium, has now released SYNGO 1.0 -- a portal that aims to represent current scientific knowledge about the genetic architecture of the synapse. In Neuron, researchers use SYNGO 1.0 to show that synaptic genes are much more likely than other brain-expressed genes to bear mutations associated with neuropsychiatric disorders.
