Authors: Ratre S, Choudhary S, Yadav Y, Parihar V, Bajaj J, Pateria A Abstract Tubercular meningitis (TBM) can have various complications. Sometimes syringomyelia can also occur as a late complication of tubercular meningitis. Although syrinx formation in early stage of TBM is very rare. There are only four published case reports of syringomyelia in acute stage of TBM. Here we report a patient with tubercular meningitis who developed syringomyelia in early course of illness. Conclusion: Colo-epidural fistula can occur as a consequence of colorectal anastomotic leakage. Prior to frank neurology symptoms and sepsis, patients may present with only a low-grade fever. Without prompt and aggressive management of colo-epidural infection, this severe complication can lead to paraplegia and death. PMID: 31311450 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
AbstractBiomarkers classically studied in Alzheimer ’s disease have been analyzed in numerous central nervous system infections in adults, but there are scarce data on these biomarkers in children. Enteroviruses appear to be the most common cause of aseptic meningitis throughout the world. The aim of the study was to investigate neuroinflammatory p roperties of non-polio enteroviruses by measuring CSF concentrations of biomarkers that are involved in neuropathological pathways of neurodegenerative disorders. We measured Aβ42, t-tau, and S100B concentrations in 42 children with enteroviral meningitis (EM) compare...
