Anatomy of the kidney and ureter

Publication date: Available online 29 May 2019Source: Surgery (Oxford)Author(s): Vishy MahadevanAbstractThe urinary tract is divided into upper and lower parts. The kidneys and ureters make up the upper urinary tract while the urinary bladder and urethra constitute the lower urinary tract. This classification while somewhat arbitrary is nevertheless useful and convenient for descriptive purposes. In this article, a detailed description of the topographical and vascular anatomy of the kidney and ureter is followed by a brief account of the anatomy of the suprarenal gland.
