Evolution Over Time of Volume Status and PD-Related Practice Patterns in an Incident Peritoneal Dialysis Cohort.

CONCLUSIONS: In this large cohort of incident participants on PD, with different treatment practices across centers and regions, we found substantial volume overload already at start of dialysis. Volume overload improved over time, and was associated with survival. PMID: 31123180 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Rangaswamy D, Guddattu V, Webster AC, Borlace M, Boudville N, Clayton P, Badve S, Johnson DW, Sud K Abstract BACKGROUND: Icodextrin is a high molecular weight, starch-derived glucose polymer that is used as an osmotic agent in peritoneal dialysis (PD) to promote ultrafiltration. There has been wide variation in its use across Australia and the rest of the world, but it is unclear whether these differences are due to patient- or centre-related factors. METHODS: Using the Australia and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant Registry, all adult patients (>18 years) who started PD in Australia between 1 Ja...

CONCLUSIONS: In our study, recipient age was the only risk factor for posttransplant diabetes mellitus. Older recipients should be examined more carefully for posttransplant diabetes mellitus, and less diabetogenic immunosuppressive drugs may be preferred. PMID: 32008491 [PubMed - in process]

Publication date: Available online 11 December 2019Source: International Journal of Nursing SciencesAuthor(s): Lei Cui, Weixia Chen, Xingxing Yu, Changping JuAbstractPurposePatients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) have a higher prevalence of cognitive impairment and inferior cognitive performance than the general population, and those with cognitive impairment are at higher risk of death than those without cognitive impairment. Having diabetes has been associated with an increased risk of cognitive decline in end-stage kidney disease patients treated with peritoneal dialysis or kidney transplant. However, these f...

CONCLUSION: There is a high CKD burden in the ME countries. There needs to be emphasis on prevention of ESRD and provision of adequate care for the total ESRD patient population. National renal registries are needed to monitor the status of ESRD patients. Health expenditures should be increased to cover all aspects of RRT in ME Countries. Conclusion: We identified a higher proportion of patients with extra-pulmonary TB in our population compared to the national figure of 58.0% in all patients diagnosed with TB. Despite co-morbidity of patients with CKD on RRT, the treatment completion rates and mortality of these patients were similar to national rates for all patients with active TB.

Hypertension is a risk factor for renal disease. Therefore, this study was aimedat estimating the prevalence of hypertension in renal patients in Iran through meta ‑analysis. The search was carried out using authentic Persian and English keywords in national and international databases including IranMedex, SID, Magiran, IranDoc, Medlib, ScienceDirect, Pubmed, Scopus, Cochrane, Embase, Web of Science, Medline, and Google Scholar search engine without any time limitation until 2017. Heterogeneity of studies was assessed using theI2index.Data were analyzed using STATA ver 11.In 35 reviewed studies with a sample of 39,621 sub...

ConclusionIn DT1 patients, renal transplantation is the best treatment for ESRD despite the use of corticosteroids and anticalcineurins. However, prior explorations of good cardiac function and adequate vascular compliance are essential to reduce the risk of CV.

Authors: Kim YS, Kim Y, Shin SJ, Lee HS, Kim SG, Cho S, Na KR, Kim JK, Kim SJ, Kim YO, Jin DC Abstract The prevalence rate and the incidence rate of hemodialysis and functioning kidney transplant recipients have continuously increased; on the contrary, those of peritoneal dialysis have continuously decreased since 2006. Dialysis patients have been getting older and have been maintained on dialysis longer. Diabetic nephropathy was the leading cause of end stage renal disease. The type of hemodialysis vascular access has been stable during the last 5 years (arteriovenous fistulas 76%, arteriovenous grafts 16%,...

CONCLUSION: The absolute number of patients and rates of incidence and prevalence on dialysis continued to increase; the mortality rate tended to rise. There were obvious regional and state discrepancies in these rates. PMID: 30968930 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
