Fosfomycin in the pediatric setting: Evidence and potential indications.
Fosfomycin in the pediatric setting: Evidence and potential indications. Rev Esp Quimioter. 2019 May;32 Suppl 1:55-61 Authors: Baquero-Artigao F, Del Rosal Rabes T Abstract To date, there has been little experience in using fosfomycin in children. However, its broad spectrum of action and excellent safety profile have renewed interest in this antibiotic, especially for treating infections by multidrug-resistant bacteria. The main indication for fosfomycin in pediatrics is currently community-acquired lower urinary tract infection. Given its good activity against bacteria, fosfomycin can also be useful in urinary infections caused by extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing enterobacteria. Fosfomycin presents very good dissemination to tissues including bone and is therefore an option in the combined therapy of osteomyelitis, especially in cases produced by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or in cases with beta-lactam allergies. Fosfomycin can also be employed in combination for multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteremia (especially carbapenemase-producing enterobacteria), S. aureus (if there is a high suspicion of MRSA or complicated infections) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus spp. Other infections in which fosfomycin could be part of a combined therapy include staphylococcal endocarditis (in case of beta-lactam allergy or MRSA), central nervous system infections (mainly by MRSA, S. epidermidis, Listeria and resistant pneumoco...
CONCLUSION We identified a population of HCV-specific CD4+ T cells with a follicular T helper cell signature that is maintained after therapy-induced elimination of persistent infection and may constitute an important target population for vaccination efforts to prevent reinfection and immunotherapeutic approaches for persistent viral infections.FUNDING Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation), the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the European Union, the Berta-Ottenstein-Programme for Advanced Clinician Scientists, and the ANRS.

[IPS] Abuja -The coronavirus outbreak -- which began in Wuhan, China, and causes a pneumonia-like illness -- is raging across Asia, infecting close to 300 people and killing four. It was initially known to be transmitted from animals to human, and was just confirmed to be transmitted from human to human.
Macau confirmed on Wednesday its first case of pneumonia linked to an outbreak of a new coronavirus strain in the central mainland China city of Wuhan, China's state news agency Xinhua said.
ConclusionsLSW could significantly not only inhibit virus replication and proliferation in vitro, but also ameliorate pneumonia damage in vivo. The antiviral effect was attributed to down-regulating the expression of inflammatory cytokines induced by influenza virus via regulating the activity of TLR4/NF-кB signaling pathway.Graphical abstract
This article reviews the spectrum of activity, the main pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics of lefamulin as well as its clinical efficacy and safety in the treatment of CAP in adult patients.Expert opinion: The clinical efficacy of lefamulin in patients with non severe CAP has been demonstrated in 2 randomized clinical trials. Precisely one of the limitations of the phase 3 trials is that the proportion of severe CAP cases is very low. Its particular mechanism of action, affecting ribosomal protein synthesis, provides a low probability of cross-resistance to other commonly used antibiotics in CAP. These fin...
The male patient in Washington state was hospitalized with pneumonia last week and had recently traveled to Wuhan, a city of 11 million people in China where the outbreak is thought to have begun.
