HRS 40th anniversary viewpoints: A serendipitous encounter in the world of pacing

My earliest memories of Hong Kong were with my brother Gene who was 2 years older than me, living with Popo (grandma) in her small one-room apartment. Our mother had left for America to prepare a place for us. We lived and played on Hennessy Road, in Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island. I remember our rice porridge and fried breadsticks for breakfast on the street, new year celebrations with firecrackers, the Mid-Autumn festivals with colorful lanterns and moon cakes, and always the sound and laughter of people walking among the sidewalk vendors.
