Skull base meningioma: Clinical and radiological efficacy based on a quantitative volumetric analysis.

The objective of this work is to verify this hypothesis by quantitative volumetric analysis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Data from 35 patients treated with either helical tomotherapy (45.7%) or fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (54.3%) were retrospectively analysed. These were mainly women (94%) aged 59 (43-81) with lesions mainly of the cavernous sinus (60%). There was a median of 2 (1-4) symptoms and the main symptoms were visual impairment (39%), cranial nerve deficits (23.4%) and headaches (17.2%). RESULTS: Median tumour volume decreased significantly (P

Staying healthy is best done with expert help. We all need medical care at some point. And if chronic illness strikes, it requires the guidance of someone with the ability to make diagnoses and balance treatments that are often aimed at different organ systems. Primary care physicians (PCPs) are generalists who see adult patients for common ailments including respiratory infections, headaches, back pain, and urinary infections. They also manage chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, anxiety, and depression. In addition, PCPs have expertise in managing multiple treatments, medicati...

In conclusion, our data show how oncogenic and tumor-suppressive drivers of cellular senescence act to regulate surveillance processes that can be circumvented to enable SnCs to elude immune recognition but can be reversed by cell surface-targeted interventions to purge the SnCs that persist in vitro and in patients. Since eliminating SnCs can prevent tumor progression, delay the onset of degenerative diseases, and restore fitness; since NKG2D-Ls are not widely expressed in healthy human tissues and NKG2D-L shedding is an evasion mechanism also employed by tumor cells; and since increasing numbers of B cells express NKG2D ...

Adam Ford of Science, Technology, and the Future carried out a number of interviews while at Undoing Aging in Berlin earlier this year. The interview materials are steadily being processed and uploaded, and that just recently included this interview with Jim Mellon, billionaire investor and philanthropist, cofounder of Juvenescence, and a very down to earth fellow who is interested in improving the human condition by targeting aging with new biotechnologies. Accordingly, he has used his resources to put himself into a position to talk up the longevity industry, move research forward, and attract a great deal more funding f...

This study was conducted in a cancer referral center, where patients with confirmed systemic cancer sent for a neuro-oncologic consultation from May 2012 to March 2018 were included for review.ResultsOf 3220 patients, 723 were diagnosed with BM, and 204 had vertigo. Of these patients, 22.5% of those who had vertigo were diagnosed to have BM and 6% of those with BM had vertigo as an initial symptom (odds ratio [OR] 0.9; p = 0.9). An additional symptom was present in 104 patients with vertigo. Bivariate regression analysis disclosed a higher risk of having BM in patients with vertigo accompanied by headache (OR18.6; p

CHICAGO (AP) — Pregnancy started out rough for Leslie Siu. Morning sickness and migraines had her reeling and barely able to function at a demanding New York marketing job, so like rising numbers of U.S. mothers-to-be, she turned to marijuana. “l was finally able to get out from under my work desk,” said Siu, who later started her own pot company and says her daughter, now 4, is thriving. There’s no proof that cannabis can relieve morning sickness, and mainstream medicine advises against use in pregnancy because of studies suggesting it might cause premature birth, low birthweight and infant brain d...

Authors: Tattevin P, Tchamgoué S, Belem A, Bénézit F, Pronier C, Revest M Abstract Aseptic meningitis is defined as meningeal inflammation - i.e. cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pleocytosis≥5 cells/mm3 - not related to an infectious process. Etiologies of aseptic meningitis can be classified in three main groups: (i) systemic diseases with meningeal involvement, which include sarcoidosis, Behçet's disease, Sjögren's syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus and granulomatosis with polyangiitis; (ii) drug-induced aseptic meningitis, mostly reported with non-steroidal an...

Conclusions and significance: TBC mostly originated in the middle ear mastoid area, and easily extended to the jugular foramen area. An individualized surgical procedure that removes tumors integrally with minimal nerve and blood vessel damage provides long-term cancer control and minimal morbidity in most cases. Conclusions: The results strengthen the worker's immunosuppression hypothesis, which may contribute to somedisorders and the carcinogenesis process. The evaluation of the immune system by flow cytometry is a promising toolfor monitoring blood malignancy risk in addition to regular classic hematological exams. PMID: 31350973 [PubMed - in process]
