Preliminary experience in the management of brain and skull-base tumors with microwave ablation; feasibility guided by ultrasound, report from 23 cases.

Conclusion: MWA can be a useful tool as a single therapy or as a complement to conventional techniques for the surgical resection of brain and skull-base tumors. CONCLUSIONS: The combination of different intraoperative imaging modalities may increase brain tumor safety and extent of resection. In particular, i-US seems to be highly sensitive to detect residual tumors, but it may generate false positives due to artifacts.
